How to price personalised dog leash sleeves on Etsy and Shopify

A simple cost-plus framework for pricing personalised Lead Sleeve listings on Etsy and Shopify, with worked examples for one-off, bundle and bulk orders.

Pricing a new sublimation blank is the part most makers get wrong — usually by underpricing. Here's the framework we recommend for personalised Lead Sleeve listings.

Also known as: dog leash sleeve, personalized dog leash, custom dog leash, leash cover, lead wrap. Lead Sleeve ships worldwide — UK, US, EU, Canada, Australia, Asia, LATAM.

The cost stack

Build your price from the bottom up. For a single personalised sleeve:

  1. Blank cost — what you paid per sleeve at your bulk tier.
  2. Consumables — sublimation paper, ink share, butcher paper, packaging.
  3. Labour — design tweak + press + finish + pack. Even at 5 minutes, that's real money.
  4. Platform fees — Etsy (transaction + processing + ads) typically eats 15–20%.
  5. Shipping margin — small buffer in case of postage rate changes.
  6. Profit — your actual margin on top.

A worked example

Say your fully landed cost per sleeve is £6 and you spend 6 minutes on a personalised order at a £30/hour effective rate (£3 of labour). That's £9.

  • On Etsy, list around £22–£26 to clear ~£10 net profit after fees.
  • On Shopify with your own traffic, similar list prices and you keep more.
  • For a 2-pack bundle, drop the per-unit price by ~10–15%, not 50% — bundles save you packing and design time, not material cost.

Three tiers to list

  • Single personalised sleeve — your hero listing.
  • Matching pair — owner's name + dog's name, or two dogs from the same household.
  • Bulk / charity pack — 10+ sleeves with one repeated design. Use the For makers page rates as your input cost and pass the savings on.

Don't forget

  • Charge for design proofs if you offer them.
  • Photograph the finished sleeve on a real leash, in a real hand — not flat on a desk.
  • List the sublimation print as fade- and weather-resistant — it's a real differentiator vs vinyl.
